$240,000 raised at Fountain of Love and Life Fundraising Gala – “Love Inspires”
Over 1,000 guests attended the fundraising gala hosted by Fountain of Love and Life on Sunday, December 5th, at the Le Parc Conference and Banquet Centres. Besides local religious and honourable guests, there were also guests who came from Taiwan, United States, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Kingston. This annual gala is the biggest fundraising event of the year for FLL and it aims to raise funds for its television and radio program productions.
That evening, together with other fundraising efforts leading up to the gala night, including gala ticket sale, annual sponsorship campaign, gala book advertising, etc., a total of $240,000 was raised, of which $60,000 was raised from on-site donation drive, and another $60,000 was generously donated by two benefactors who together offered to match the total amount of on-site donations. The funds raised would allow the FLL ministry to focus its efforts in improving and increasing its media productions in 2011. FLL will also seek out new broadcast channels for its productions and an overseas filming project can also be carried out.
The theme of this year’s gala is “Love Inspires”. It corresponded with the theme of the FLL video contest, which was launched in fall. The top three entries, selected by a panel of adjudicators from the media industry and FLL, were showcased at the gala. The guests also had the opportunity to vote for their favourite video at the gala, which in turn determined the order of the top three winners. In addition, FLL presented a very touching and inspiring video testimony at the gala. The video revealed how a seminarian and a retired physiotherapist helped those who were most in need and vulnerable in very critical situations. It was very fitting with this year’s theme of “Love Inspires”. FLL also invited the seminarian, Edmund Lo, SJ, to make a speech at the gala. Moreover, FLL gave out certificates of appreciation to two female seniors over 80 years of age who participated in FLL’s fundraising walkathon in fall. All the guests at the gala gave a round of applause to these two seniors and the atmosphere was incredibly touching.
The gala’s program was very enjoyable. There were music performances, raffle draw, and silent auction. Almost a hundred items were up for silent auction, including commemorative calligraphy, paintings, and religious items. Paul Yeung, Director of FLL, stressed the urgency of spreading the Good News. He encouraged every Catholic to be the salt and light of the world. He emphasized that Catholics should not be afraid of being witnesses of God. They should be like a lamp on the table to be visible to others and help spread the Good News of Jesus Christ effectively to people in the world.
Apart from broadcasting through S+L TV, FLL also broadcasts on Fairchild TV so Chinese people from different cities in Canada can watch the programs as well. FLL also has a weekly radio program on Fairchild Radio and makes available all programs on its website www.FLL.cc. Furthermore, www.facebook.com/FLL.cc and www.youtube.com/watchFLL also allow audiences to obtain FLL information and watch FLL video clips.
The FLL ministry is mainly run by a group of dedicated volunteers. Its productions and operation rely 100% on donations. For any enquiries or donations, please visit the website at www.FLL.cc or call 905-707-7800.
